Man Cave?

Pam and I had the chance to visit Lazydays RV in Tampa, Florida over the Thanksgiving week. We walked the 126 acre lot looking for something unique to us and the region that we live in. We found this Open Range bunk house OF376FBH. This was unique because of the layout of the front bunk room.

The specs on the fifth wheel are as follows.

  1. Weight - 12,711 pounds

  2. Cargo capacity of 2,289 pounds

  3. Dry hitch weight of 2,535 pounds

  4. Length from the pin to the rear is 41 feet and total length of 42.5 feet

  5. Height 13’2”

  6. Width with slides closed is 8’4”

  7. Width with slides extended is 14’

  8. Axles (2) at 7,000 pounds with 16” tires (F) rated

  9. Standard hitch pin

  10. Black tank - 82 gallons

  11. Gray tank - 82 gallons

  12. Fresh water tank - 85 gallons

  13. Propane tanks - 60 pounds total

This fifth wheel RV is four season rated. Open Range includes the increased insulation in the sidewalls, baggage doors, ceiling and underbelly. The underbelly is enclosed and has ducted heat with a cold air return. The storage areas are heated. Open Range provides a high performance furnace to heat all of these areas. The gates for the tanks are cable operated allowing the valves to be in the heated underbelly.

The axles are Dexter with electric drum brakes. The suspension is upgraded with thicker shackles and wet bolts.

The water heater is 10 gallons electric/gas.

The storage compartment at the rear of this RV is huge. The 110 outlet is a really nice addition. This space would allow you to bring paddle boards, kayaks, golf clubs, bicycle, etc.. As I am typing, electric bikes come to mind. This would be a great space to store and charge your bikes. This compartment is so big that it would very difficult to retrieve items from the middle of this space. Adding sliding trays to this area would make this space more useable.

The main living space inside this RV reminds me of a toy hauler with the long couch and small tables. I ordinarily don’t like this design; however, I think it is the best layout for this RV. The TV is on the back wall. The stock version of this RV has a love seat at the far end of the living space and places a freestanding table in between. The large couch with chaises on each end provide a better viewing angle for the TV. The couch also opens to a double bed.

The kitchen has the four burner Insignia stove/oven. This oven is slightly larger to fit normal size pans. The four-burner stove top allows more cooking area for the chef in the family. The 21 cubic foot refrigerator provides plenty of storage. There is a spot to set-up a coffee pot (very important to my family).

The main living area has cabinets all around for storage. The couch also has storage beneath it.

The back bedroom has a queen bed off center. The mirrored closet is in the slide out. With the slide extended, the floor space next the bed is very comfortable. The space on the opposite side of the bed is sufficient. This bedroom has ample storage areas. There are cabinets over the bed. The connected bathroom is large enough to be comfortable while dressing. The large cabinet is capable of having a a small washer/dryer combo. The corner shower is one piece and appeared to be of good quality.

The front bunk room is located in the front of the RV. There is a solid door separating the main living space from this area. There are two opposing love seats that open into beds. There is a large TV located in the center of the front wall. There is a mini refrigerator below the TV. A half bath is also in this area.

Why do I suggest that this area could be a man cave? If your house is like mine, I am really the only person that watches sports unless my brother-in-law, son-in-laws or friends come over for a game. The women usually gather during the games and talk loudly. My wife and I love to have friends and family around and that always means food and drinks. This front room with the solid door, fridge, and bathroom allows the guys to watch the game and have drinks without interfering with the woman. The floor space is large enough for a small table or some bean bag chairs. I can envision a sign reading “He-Man Women Hater’s Club” and sport decor on the walls.

With a quick “SLAP” on the head, Pam will force me back to reality reminding me the space is for our children, grand babies, family and friends. This space would allow privacy for any family or friends that are visiting.

A guy can always dream…
